Barbara Zagorski is a self taught artist from the North Shore of Long Island. She has always been a creative, and took inspiration from her paternal Grandmother, who was an avid homemaker born in the late 1800s. Zagorski describes herself as a horrible student, and insists this is why she had to teach herself to paint. She does not believe in a right or wrong way to make art. Her paintings consist of many layers of paint troweled on and translucent washes until the painting itself appears. She looks for areas that can be embellished, telling a story not from nature but from her mind's eye: a song that keeps coming to mind, a quote or just an obscure feeling. She finds the depth of layered colors to be "a wonderland" with mesmerizing dimensional effects. When she isn't in her studio, she is concocting something great in the kitchen and, of course, not following the recipe.
