"I painted this in 2023, when the Russian government began releasing and arming violent convicts on the condition they serve in the military against Ukraine. Coincidentally, I was working to portray a similar thing that happened in 2014, when the Russian government utilized convicts to kill citizens who were protesting the puppet leader Putin had implemented in Ukraine. So, Revolt represents a more universal uprising as well as these specific historical events."
