"My America the Beautiful series started in 2007 during the George W. Bush administration. As I've developed as a painter, I’ve returned to flags to process uncertain political times. America the Beautiful II was developed during 2020 and focused more on the strain between the states. America the Beautiful III was in response to the second election of Donald Trump. Each piece was developed as part of a whole to make a larger flag but ultimately still fragmented. Recently, I've started expanding the series beyond American flags and have works exploring individual states and other countries. I have many conflicting emotions surrounding America's 250th anniversary. My work is deeply rooted to place and the only thing I'm certain of is: America is home and will always be."
